City Park, mostly known as ‘Liget’ is the first public park in Europe and one of the most outstanding masterpieces of the Hungarian Millennium Celebrations. City Park offers pleasant outdoor activities, relaxation and sporting for all ages throughout the year. Located in an area of 100 hectares, the park gives home to several amazing building complex, and the largest bathing establishment in Europe. VISITING CITY PARK
City Park is located in the 14th district of Budapest, at the end of Andrassy avenue. The park can be easily accessible with the underground from Deák square and offers free entrance to every visitor. 1. Vajdahunyad Castle
Vajdahunyad Castle is the most dominant building complex in City Park showcasing the architecture of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles on separate buildings. The establishment designed by Ignac Alpar was built for the thousandth-year anniversary of Hungarian settlement. The castle is now home for the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture representing the thousandth-year old agricultural history of Hungary. The main style of the castle is based on the Hunedoara Castle in Transylvania, but you can also discover parts of the building from Church of Ják, elements of the Cathedral of Pécs and motifs from the Royal Palace of Gödöllő.
2. City Park Lake
City Park Lake offers an excellent possibility to relax, enjoy nature and open-air sports for all age groups throughout the year. From Spring to Autumn you can enjoy boating, and in winter season, the lake ensures the pleasure of ice skating on the second oldest ice skating rink in Europe.
3. Széchenyi Thermal Bath
Have a relaxing few hours in Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the largest bathing complex in Europe. The 76 Celsius thermal water comes from 1246 meters deep to the surface from Budapest’s second deepest well. Széchenyi Thermal Bath welcomes guests in 21 pools, offering wellness services, sauna, aerobic and water gymnastics.
4. Budapest Zoo
City Park gives home to the world’s oldest, 150-year old Budapest Zoo showcasing thousandth of botanical and animal species.
